Building Real Time Apps With WebSockets

Real time applications such as chat systems, live dashboards and collaborative tools need a constant connection between browser and server. WebSockets provide a way to open a two way channel so data can flow instantly in both directions.

Compared to traditional polling, WebSockets reduce latency and server overhead, because updates are only sent when something actually changes. Modern frameworks and cloud services make it much easier to build and scale this kind of application.

Start with one small feature such as live notifications or an activity feed and use that to gain experience with WebSockets before moving more critical workflows to real time communication.
